Medical-Social Collaboration

This edition of HASLink features an embroidered cover depicting the close ties between the hospital and the community. Stitch by stitch, it gently links healthcare professionals, community partners and patients, weaving a beautiful movement of harmony between hospitals and community. A piano has been placed in the hospital lobby, where colleagues play a few pieces during lunch time, using music to comfort both staff and patients. Music therapists and ‘Giggle Doctors' from non-government organisations visit the wards to bring a relaxing moment to patients, allowing them to relief from illness and pain temporarily. Some patients have even become volunteers, passing on to fellow patients the skills they learnt at the patient resource centre. In addition, through activities such as one-day shop manager, Pastel Nagomi Art and mural project, the hospital breaks down the invisible boundary between itself and the community, building a strong network with community partners. The hospital is no longer merely a place that provides medical treatment, but one that cares for patients' physical, psychological, social and spiritual well-being, and supports their emotion.

The Hospital Authority provides round-the-clock services. It could not be done without community partners walking side by side. In this issue, HASLink shares stories of medical-social harmony, showcasing how this partnership brings hope to our patients.
