A self-introduction fosters trust between staff and patients

When patients come to a hospital or clinic, they inevitably feel anxious in the face of the unknown condition of their illness. However, a simple greeting from our colleagues can change a patient's mood for the day and help patients feel more at ease during their visit.

Five hospitals under KWC organised roving booth games to help frontline staff better understand the importance of self-introduction. The ‘Hello, I am...' campaign, organised by the Kowloon West Cluster (KWC), aims to shorten the distance between staff and patients by encouraging the staff to proactively introduce themselves. When patients have more trust in medical staff, they are more willing to share their condition and discuss treatment options, which improves the patient's experience and the effectiveness of medical services.
To promote the culture of self-introduction, KWC has organised a series of exciting activities over the past two years, including roving booth games, an email signature design competition, and an online quiz game with prizes. Nursing team from Caritas Medical Centre even created a rhythmic chanting to promote the campaign's concept to frontline staff. All activities have received an enthusiastic response with positive feedback from KWC staff. KWC hopes self-introduction will become a daily practice for staff through the campaign promotion, in order to create a more friendly and warm hospital environment for patients.
