Art heals the soul

Social workers at the Patient Resource Centre of Queen Mary Hospital observed that psychiatric inpatients often demonstrate remarkable concentration and immersion when engaging in art making. To further unlock patients' potential, the ‘Arts and Crafts Programme' was launched. With the guidance of volunteer tutors, patients create their own drawings using the Pastel Nagomi Art painting method. Through the journey of composition, colour selection, painting, and appreciating each other's works, patients' confidence, autonomy, and interpersonal skills are boosted, while their emotions are soothed. The team hopes that, alongside medical treatment, patients could also be nourished by the gentleness of art and gradually making full recovery.
