Restoring the athletic career of patients
I once played basketball against a competitive athlete on the opposing team, only to realise later that he was my patient. Seeing him return to the court as an amateur player and deliver such a high-level performance after our successful treatment was incredibly rewarding. That moment served as a profound reminder that sports surgery is about more than just repairing damaged structures – it is about empowering athletes to reclaim their identity and passion, enabling them to once again enjoy the sports they love.
Restoring hope
A 99-year-old patient had a toe ulcer that caused her three months of pain. It simply would not heal due to poor blood circulation. We restored the blood flow with a delicate, minimally invasive angioplasty and cleared the blocked vessels. Within days, she safely returned home. This is why I chose vascular surgery: Healing is not reserved for the young or the robust. Medical care can bring profound hope, even to our frailest patients.
Guarding hope for critical patients
Witnessing critically ill patients recover and return to their daily lives remains my greatest motivation. I once cared for a critically ill obstetric patient with the team. Beyond stabilising her condition, we also focused on easing her family's anxiety. After her discharge, the family reached out to share their updates and thank us. It reminded me that recovery brings hope not only to one individual, but to an entire family with the seamless coordination of the team.
